The Madeira School
Madeira is an independent boarding and day school for girls in grade 9-12. Located on a beautiful 376-acre campus just 10 miles from Washington, DC and serving students from around the world, our mission is to launch women who change the world. A Madeira student graduates confident in her abilities and her plans for the future - part of a legacy of bright, passionate women!
To be a Madeira girl means you'll always be welcomed, encouraged, and accepted. At Madeira, we believe that learning happens in and out of the classroom, within and across disciplines. Here, learning is active, joyful, and experiential. It is rooted in close relationships between students and caring adults. Our innovative modular schedule, where girls focus on three courses at a time, provides a framework for active student engagement and collaboration while allowing girls to chart their own path. Our girls graduate with more real-world experience than most college graduates!  As part of Madeira’s Co-Curriculum program, all students complete three 5-week internships embedded into the school year. Girls focus on service in the community during sophomore year, intern on Capitol Hill for a Senator or Congressional Representative junior year, and design their internship for senior year.
At Madeira, you gain lifelong friends and mentors, build confidence to try new things, and become your best self. Girls are cheered on as they discover new talents, tackle challenges, and pursue passions. Ours is a community that champions girls as leaders and encourages them to share who they are and explore whom they think they may want to become. Here you get the best of both worlds.  Our beautiful, park-like campus overlooking the Potomac River is full of outdoor adventures, epic views, and world-class facilities. And yet just outside our gates, vast possibilities await: life-changing internships, world-class cultural opportunities, and the international vibe of one of the world's most important cities.
