Indian Mountain School

Indian Mountain School offers a coeducational junior boarding and day experience for students in pre-kindergarten through grade nine. At IMS, you will find a vibrant, joyful community of learners in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut where every child is known, supported, and inspired. We are deeply committed to the learning process, understanding that learning and growth are rarely linear. Our teachers, at every level, provide equal measures of challenge and support and believe that all students thrive in a learning environment rooted in connection and community.

Our students are engaged in meaningful learning that interests them, inspires them, and exposes them to challenges and opportunities we face in the world. We believe in the importance of embracing complex topics, and always do so from a place of honesty, compassion, and respect. Our students are better for it. And at the same time, we ensure that joy is infused into the IMS experience because nothing is more important.

We believe that rigor and fun are not mutually exclusive and make use of our extraordinary 600 acre campus to that end. We recognize that in life, and in learning, it takes courage to wander from an expected path, take in the view, and consider different perspectives. Our cohesive academic program and robust daily athletic and artistic offerings prepare students with the skills and habits of mind necessary for success at secondary school and beyond. Guided by the founding motto of "Life Through Service", Indian Mountain School inspires in each member of its community the courage to climb, the joy to create, the passion to learn, and the spirit to contribute in kind and meaningful ways. Recent secondary school matriculation for our graduates includes: Berkshire School, Choate Rosemary Hall,The Hotchkiss School,The Lawrenceville School, The Loomis Chaffee School, Millbrook School, Phillips Andover Academy, Salisbury School, Taft School, Westminster School.
